Zooey Deschanel and Jonathan Scott aren’t getting engaged, despite a false report. It’s just an uncreative rumor from one of the tabloids. Gossip Cop found it silly.
Deschanel and Scott recently attended his older brother J.D.’s Halloween-themed wedding, which required guests to wear costumes. Taking a significant other to a wedding is a relatively benign event in most relationships, but it apparently convinced Life & Style the two themselves plan to get married. A headline in the magazine is all about the two “planning their future” and thinking about the next step. “When they met, there was immediate chemistry and they haven’t looked back since,” an anonymous insider tells the magazine.
Watching his brother’s wedding with Deschanel “gave Jonathan wedding fever,” according to the supposed source. “He’s crazy about Zooey, and she feels the same way about him. I wouldn’t be surprised if an engagement is in the cards!” The tipster continues, “When Jonathan isn’t traveling for work, they spend every minute together. He’s already moved some of his belongings into Zooey’s place [in LA], and they’re talking about buying a love nest and renovating it together.” Scott currently lives in Las Vegas in a property he shares with his twin brother.
While the outlet is quick to point out how supportive the Scott family has been of the relationship, it says that Deschanel’s friends are a little wary. “Some are also warning her not to rush into anything,” says the suspicious source, noting that the actress is currently going through a divorce from producer Jacob Pechenik. “They fear she could be on the rebound,” the insider adds, “but she’s adamant that her feelings for Jonathan are genuine and says ‘when you know, you know.'”
Instead of relying on anonymous “tipsters,” Gossip Cop reached out to Deschanel’s spokesperson. The actress’s rep, who’s qualified to speak on her behalf, tells us on the record that the tabloid’s story is “not true.” Although the two appear to be very happy in their relationship, there’s absolutely no reason to be ringing wedding bells.
Plus, this isn’t even the tabloid’s first time pushing this narrative about them moving in together, which isn’t accurate either. Last month, Gossip Cop called out the publication for another false claim about Deschanel and Scott living together. Star, one of Life & Style‘s sister publications, said as early as September that Deschanel and Scott were moving in together. As we noted in both of those busts, the tabloids simply toss out claims while never backing them up with details or legitimate sources. This latest attempt is no exception.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
