One of this week’s tabloids claims Zac Efron refuses to eat at non-vegan restaurants. The story is completely made-up. Gossip Cop can debunk it.

“Zac’s Diet Demands” reads a headline in the latest issue of OK! The accompanying article says the actor is so committed to his vegan diet that he won’t even be around non-vegan food. A so-called “friend” of the actor is quoted as saying, “He won’t dine out in restaurants unless they have 100 percent vegan menus. If he even smells cheese or meat he jokes around and acts like he’s getting sick.”

The outlet’s supposed source goes on to say that Efron’s pals are getting tired of the actor constantly criticizing their food choices. “It’s to the point where no one enjoys sharing a meal with him,” adds the alleged insider. “He’s in amazing shape, but his snobby attitude stinks.”

Here’s what’s really happening. Efron said in an interview with Variety last month that he went vegan to lose weight for his role as serial killer Ted Bundy in the upcoming movie Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile. The actor explained that he lost 13 pounds after eating plant-based foods, adding, “It was a rather large transformation and lifestyle change… I kind of just trimmed down a lot and really controlled my diet.” Efron never said that he stuck to his vegan diet after filming wrapped last year.

OK! seems to have created its phony story based on Efron’s revelation about eating vegan for a film role. Gossip Cop checked in with a source close to the actor, who wasn’t able to speak on the record, but assures us the tabloid’s article is nonsense. The actor simply doesn’t refuse to dine at non-vegan restaurants.

This isn’t the first time Gossip Cop has called out the magazine for making up a story surrounding the actor’s upcoming serial killer biopic. A few months ago, we busted the outlet for wrongly reporting that Efron thought his Bundy movie was “too gory” for mainstream audiences and his best scenes would be edited out as a result.

Shortly before that, Gossip Cop busted OK!’s sister publication, In Touch, for falsely claiming Efron was acting like a jerk on the set of the Bundy movie. We also debunked a National Enquirer story about Efron thinking he was too handsome to play the serial killer. This latest article about the actor refusing to be around non-vegan food is more fiction.
