The inaugural season of NBC’s “World of Dance” came to a close on Tuesday night. As the show’s title suggests, the competition featured dancers from all over the globe competing to be named the world’s best. They were judged by Jennifer Lopez, Ne-Yo and Derek Hough, who ranked each performance using different criteria, such as choreography and creativity. Each panelist could award a certain number of points, which were averaged together to get an act’s total score.

The contestants were ultimately divided into “Junior,” “Upper” and “Team” categories, with one act from each group making the “world final.” For the finale, Les Twins (Upper) and their competition, Eva Igo (Junior) and Swing Dance Latino (Team) had to perform two dances. The judges’ scores for both routines were then averaged to determine the overall winner. And it was Les Twins, with an average score of 93.8, who won the whopping $1 million prize.

Since the show was taped, they were able to appear on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” the same night their win was broadcast. And the morning after, they went to “Today.” Brothers Laurent and Larry Nicolas Bourgeois, who have toured with Beyonce and have a huge online following, said of becoming the first “World of Dance” winners, “It was a shock, but at the same time, we deserved it.” More humbly, Larry said, “It was really scary, because that Eva Igo was amazing.”

Laurent also spoke about suffering an injury during the competition, and revealed he underwent surgery only six days ago. “God has a plan for everybody,” he insisted. And you wouldn’t know that it’s been less than a week since the operation by the way he danced on the morning show. The French twins even tried to teach the “Today” co-hosts some of their spirited moves. Watch the video below!
