A tabloid claims Will Smith and Jada Pinkett's marriage is on the rocks because the actress appeared on a British talk show without her wedding ring. The article isn't at all accurate. Gossip Cop looked into the situation and can debunk the false rumors of marital trouble.
A headline in the latest issue of the National Enquirer reads, "Jada tears off wedding ring" and claims she was "making a statement" when she appeared without a ring on the British talk show Lorraine in July. The tabloid quotes a "source close to the actress" as saying, "For her to make an appearance without it is worrying. Jada and Will have been living separate lives for a while now and she's taking it further by removing her ring."
The first problem with the magazine's bogus article is that Pinkett almost never wears a wedding ring, and hasn't done so throughout her and Smith's 22-year marriage. The actress isn't wearing a ring in any of her Instagram photos. Looking back over old TV appearance over the years, she never has a wedding ring on. Here's another kicker: Smith doesn't wear a ring either!
It seems wedding rings have never been an important symbol of their marriage. Even the New York Times discussed it in a story they ran about men who don't wear wedding bands. The truth is, the Smiths are still very happily married, which was evident this week when Pinkett spoke glowingly about her husband and her marriage on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.
The Enquirer is often wrong about the state of the couple's marriage. Last summer, the tabloid falsely reported that the spouses were "in crisis" over old photos of Smith and Margot Robbie playfully lifting their shirts on the set of a movie. The pictures, which were already five years old when the tabloid published its article 2018, didn't bother Pinkett in the slightest.
That story even sued the same premise about Smith and Pinkett having "separate lives." A supposed source was quoted as saying, "They haven't really been together in recent years... and those leaked photos of Will and Margot were the hammer on the nail." That wasn't the case.
Just weeks before that incorrect report, the Enquirer also falsely claimed the couple was headed toward a "$270 million divorce" and Pinkett was losing her hair because of marital problems. Gossip Cop also debunked that story at the time it was written. It's now more than a year later and the couple is still going strong.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
