Will Smith and Jada Pinkett are not headed for a divorce over her friendship with rapper August Alsina, despite a ridiculous tabloid report. There's no truth to the premise. Gossip Cop can debunk it.
According to NW, the actress's friendship with the 26-year-old rapper has put a major strain on her marriage of 21 years. A supposed source tells the outlet, "Will's suddenly trying to tell Jada who she can and can't spend time with and she's not putting up with it. Word is, he's convinced she is falling for [Alsina] and he isn't happy about it."
The alleged insider further contends that the spouses have gotten into major arguments over the situation to the point where "they're virtually at war." The questionable tipster goes on to say that Smith "has tolerated" his wife's friendship with the rapper for a while, but he recently flipped out when Alsina expressed his love for Pinkett on social media. "The 'L' word is bouncing around way too much for his liking," says the suspicious source. "He's told them no more but Jada's said, 'No way.'"
The seemingly phony insider further claims that Smith became "increasingly jealous" of his wife's relationship with Alsina when the rapper appeared on her Facebook show, "Red Table Talk," last year. "If they're not talking in person, they're talking on the phone," the "source" says of Pinkett and the rapper. "It's like a third person is in her marriage."
The magazine is simply trying to create a nonexistent controversy because Pinkett has a younger male friend. Gossip Cop checked in with a source close to the situation, who wasn't able to speak on the record, but assures us the tabloid's report is completely untrue. Smith has no issue with his wife's friendship with Alsina. And far from being "at war," Smith and Pinkett packed on the PDA at the red carpet premiere of Aladdin less than two weeks ago.
It should also be noted, when Smith appeared on Pinkett's Facebook show last year, the two agreed that no matter what difficulties they go through, divorce will never be "an option" for them. Additionally, this isn't the first time we've had to correct a bogus story about Alsina coming between the couple. Back in 2017, Gossip Cop shot down a false article about Pinkett leaving Smith for the rapper.
As for NW, Gossip Cop busted the publication more than a year ago for falsely claiming Smith and Pinkett had "secretly split." The divorce rumors weren't true back then and they're no more accurate now. The untrustworthy outlet simply has no insight into the couple's marriage, which hasn't been negatively affected by any of her friendships.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
