A tabloid report claiming Will Smith has been "trash-talking" George Clooney behind his back is completely made-up. Gossip Cop can exclusively debunk the bogus premise. We've learned there's no feud between the stars.
According to the Globe, Smith is incredibly jealous of Clooney and has widely expressed his hatred of the fellow movie star around Hollywood. An alleged "insider" tells the magazine, "Will can't stand the guy, and doesn't care if people know it! He gripes George is overrated and overpaid and even copied his style!"
The outlet's questionable source adds, "He sees George as a cheeseball and doesn't get why George is receiving a ton of lifetime achievement awards while he doesn't get a look." The tipster goes on to say that Smith's "trash-talking" is so well-known, Clooney has caught wind of the actor's insults and "doesn't appreciate" being slammed by one of his peers in the industry.
The tabloid's story is based on claims from an anonymous and untraceable "insider," but Gossip Cop checked in with Clooney's rep, who tells us he's never heard anything about Smith bad-mouthing his client. The outlet says that nearly everyone in Hollywood knows about Smith's supposed disdain for Clooney, but a spokesperson qualified to speak on the actor's behalf has zero knowledge of any animosity between the stars. The unreliable magazine seems to be creating a random and fake celebrity feud for no reason whatsoever.
Additionally, Smith and Clooney have crossed paths over the years, and the two have been perfectly friendly in their interactions. For example, the movie stars posed together and shared a laugh on the red carpet of the 2006 Producers Guild Awards. Photos from the event show the two happily chatting and goofing around for the cameras.
Meanwhile, Salma Hayek posted an Instagram photo of herself alongside Clooney and Smith in honor of Clooney's 56th birthday last year. The picture isn't dated, but it appears to have been taken in the late '90s or early 2000's, so the actors have clearly known each other for a long time. Additionally, if everyone in Hollywood is aware that Smith dislikes the actor, as the magazine alleges, it's unlikely that Hayek would include him in a photo celebrating Clooney's birthday.
It should be noted, the tabloids have a long history of throwing Clooney into nonexistent feuds with other male stars. In the past, we've corrected baseless stories about the actor being at war with Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Leonardo DiCaprio and Ryan Gosling, to name a few. This latest drama involving Smith is equally fabricated.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
