Will Ferrell opened his “Saturday Night Live” monologue by saying how hosting the show has always been a lifelong dream. He then said he hit a beam while doing a change from the cold open, which resulted in him bleeding. The bloody injury caused Ferrell to sing “I Think I’ll Like It Here,” as he became more confused and incoherent. See the video below of Ferrell’s “SNL” opening monologue.

This is Ferrell’s fourth time hosting the comedy sketch series that propelled him to international stardom. After becoming a household name, having been a star on “SNL” from 1995-2002, Ferrell first returned to the show as its host in 2005, along with musical guest Queens Of The Stone Age. He then returned to host in 2009, with Green Day as the episode’s musical entertainment.

Three years later, Ferrell was back to host “Saturday Night Live,” while while Usher performed two songs. During that appearance in May 2012, the comedic actor brought his mom onstage as part of a Mother’s Day special. In between all those times he’s officially hosted the comedy program and his latest return to Studio 8H, Ferrell has made several cameos on the show. In fact, he returned after the season he left to do a bit during “Weekend Update” in which he brought everyone up to speed about what he was doing since having left the program.

Dressed as a farmer, Ferrell told anchors Tina Fey and Jimmy Fallon, “I quit the biz.. I do some farming, raise organic chicken… and hang out with my special lady,” who he revealed was Britney Spears. She then joined him on-set and they both discussed how they love each other and their new lives, but admitted they’re “horrible farmer” and “all our animals are sick.”

Another memorable cameo was when Paul Rudd hosted “SNL” in 2013 with musical guest One Direction. Rudd decided during his monologue to have a sing-off with the boy band against his own “Man Band,” which comprised Anchorman co-stars Ferrell, Steve Carell, and David Koechner. And much like this week’s cold open, Ferrell came back for a cameo in 2015 to impersonate George W. Bush. In that bit, Ferrell’s Bush announced he was running for president again because the field was so “messed up, it makes you miss me, doesn’t it?”
