Vanessa Lachey and Maksim Chmerkovskiy have been feuding behind-the-scenes of “Dancing With The Stars,” Gossip Cop can confirm. We’re told the two are both strong-willed and often have a hard time compromising. However, a claim that Chmerkovskiy “might not return” to the dance competition show is entirely untrue.

On Monday night, after Tom Bergeron simply announced, “Maks is dealing with a personal issue,” fans began to wonder why the dance pro was not competing. But the host’s lack of an explanation, and the fact that Chmerkovskiy’s brother Val and his wife Peta Murgatroyd were still dancing, actually posed more questions, including what the “personal issue” was. As Gossip Cop noted, because Chmerkovskiy didn’t perform, Lachey danced a jazz routine with Alan Bersten on “Dancing With The Stars” that was later called “terrific.”

We immediately reached out on Monday to a rep for Chmerkovskiy, who refused to comment. By Tuesday morning, there were a slew of reports, some more accurate than others, about what the “issue” was between the dancer and Lachey. People correctly noted that there was a “chemistry” problem between Lachey and Chmerkovskiy, resulting from the two having “big personalities.” Still, as Gossip Cop has been reporting since the season’s premiere in mid-September, Lachey has been one of the top contenders, and for the most part, she and Chmerkovskiy have been able to contain their differences and not let them affect their performances.

This past week, however, we’re told their issues came to a boiling point, and Chmerkovskiy bowed out of Monday’s show. A Lachey defender said it was Chmerkovskiy’s problem and had “nothing to do with Vanessa.” But Gossip Cop has learned each have had their heated moments and have been advised to both cool down. RadarOnline further contended that because of Lachey’s bossy behavior, Chmerkovskiy “may never come back to work.” That’s not true. A rep for “Dancing With The Stars” has confirmed that Chmerkovskiy and Lachey will both be back next week competing again on the fourth week of the show.
