Vanessa Hudgens was honored with the Teen Choice Awards‘ first-ever #SeeHer Award at Sunday’s 2017 ceremony. Watch the video below.

The #SeeHer Award was handed out in conjunction with the Association of National Advertisers, which started the #SeeHer campaign last year. The initiative calls for girls and women to be accurately represented across all mediums by the year 2020, so that when a consumer sees an ad or watches a movie, she sees a true reflection of herself and not a biased one. As Gossip Cop reported, the inaugural #SeeHer Award was given to Viola Davis at last December’s Critics’ Choice Awards. This now marks the first time such an honor was bestowed at the Teen Choice Awards.

As announced on Friday, Hudgens was selected to receive the award in recognition of her work “pushing boundaries on changing stereotypes and embodying the fight for realistic female portrayals in media.” Following a tribute from her “So You Think You Can Dance” colleague Cat Deeley, the actress took the stage and said, “I am super excited and ths is such an honor, but if it doesn’t seem like it, it’s because I’m really sick.” She then told fans, “Thank you guys so much from the bottom of my heart. You guys have been with me through thick and thin.”

Calling the honor a “ridiculously amazing award,” Hudgens went on to say, “I’m not gonna lie: When I was 25 I felt like I had it all figured out, and then I woke up at 27 and realized I had no idea who I was, what I stood for and what I wanted… It pushed me to dig deeper and figure out what kind of woman I want to become.”

“I think it is so important to lean into our individuality and embrace our weirdness, to not be afraid of being different,” she said, adding, “Know that in your heart, you are enough, and the more you lean into that, the brighter you will shine.”

The star was already a three-time Teen Choice Awards winner before tonight. In 2006, Hudgens and “High School Musical” co-star Zac Efron shared Choice TV Chemistry, and in 2007, she scored Choice Music: Breakout Artist – Female. She was also named 2008’s Choice Hottie: Female. Hudgens further earned Teen Choice nominations in 2009, 2011 and 2012. Check out video of her #SeeHer Award acceptance speech below!
