Tom Hanks does not wear a fake prosthetic nose, despite a completely absurd tabloid report. Gossip Cop can exclusively debunk this ridiculous story. We're told it's simply laughable.
Earlier this month, the actor attended the unveiling of Barack and Michelle Obama's official portraits at the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery. The National Enquirer is now maintaining that Hanks' nose looked larger than usual at the event. The article bizarrely asks, "Is that really his honker?"
The magazine quotes a doctor who hasn't treated Hanks as saying, "Some might think he's wearing a prosthesis over his real nose. It's coloring looks different from his facial skin, and it's larger and more bulbous than one might expect." As for the reason Hanks would wear a fake nose, the medical professional speculates it could be due to "cosmetic surgery" or "skin cancer."
"If he had something cauterized, it could be disfiguring for a week or two," says the doctor. "If the person is rich and famous and must make public appearances, they might benefit from a temporary disguise like a prosthesis." This may be true, but it doesn't apply to Hanks. Gossip Cop checked in with a rep for the actor, who laughed off the tabloid's story before exclusively assuring us it's "totally false."
As for the magazine's theory that Hanks' nose looked bigger than usual, that's entirely possible. But it has nothing to do with the tabloid's claim. As people age, their noses droop, due to gravity, and appear larger. Regardless, Gossip Cop can confirm that the speculation about the actor wearing a fake nose is both ludicrous and untrue.
Unfortunately, the publication has a long history of making up stories about the legendary actor, so we're not too surprised by this latest fabrication. Gossip Cop recently busted the outlet for wrongly reporting that Hanks was feuding with Meryl Streep over her scoring an Oscar nomination for The Post instead of him. Shortly before that nonsense, we debunked a bogus article claiming the actor refused to invite Streep to a party he threw for the cast of the film. As for this latest report, Hanks doesn't have a fake nose, but the Enquirer is filled with fake news.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
