Tom Hanks is not walking Meg Ryan down the aisle at her supposed wedding to John Mellencamp, despite a completely made-up tabloid report. Gossip Cop can exclusively debunk the story. A rep for the actress tells us there’s no truth to it.
According to the National Enquirer, Ryan and Mellencamp are planning to tie the knot in South Carolina this fall, and she’s asked longtime friend Hanks to give her away. “Tom is thrilled to be walking Meg down the aisle,” says an alleged source close to the actor, who co-starred with Ryan in the romantic comedies Sleepless in Seattle and You’ve Got Mail.
It’s been reported that Ryan is estranged from many members of her family, so the outlet’s “source” contends that Hanks is “filling that void, almost like an older brother,” adding, “Meg adores Tom and had no hesitation asking him.” However, the only proof the tabloid has to back up the marriage rumors is that “Mellencamp’s neighbors in South Carolina believe he’s making plans for a big fall wedding.” It’s already been established this isn’t the case.
Earlier this year, the New York Post noted that people living in Daufuskie Island, SC, where Mellencamp owns a home, spotted the singer and his girlfriend “putting together some celebration.” A few members of the community then jumped to the conclusion that the two were planning their nuptials. However, a rep for Mellencamp told the newspaper that the speculation was simply “not true.” The Enquirer is basing the majority of its premise on a report that’s already been debunked.
The unreliable publication is using an anonymous and untraceable “insider” to sell this tall tale about Hanks walking Ryan down the aisle, but Gossip Cop checked in with the actress’s spokesperson, who tells us on the record the story is “just something out of thin air and has no relationship to reality.” It seems the magazine just borrowed the false rumors about Ryan and Mellencamp planning a fall wedding, then decided to arbitrarily throw Hanks into the mix. The tabloid’s sister outlet, RadarOnline, also posted the bogus report online.
It must be noted, the Enquirer has proven to know very little about the actress’s love life. Last year, Gossip Cop busted the magazine for wrongly reporting that Ryan was getting back together with ex-husband Dennis Quaid. As time has shown, that didn’t happen. This latest article involving Hanks’ supposed role at the actress’s unplanned wedding is more lies.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
