Tom Cruise's son Connor isn't cutting ties with his dad and leaving Scientology, despite an untrue tabloid report. Gossip Cop can correct the story. It simply isn't accurate.
According to the National Enquirer, Cruise's 24-year-old son had been given a "deluxe bedroom" in the actor's newly built penthouse apartment in Clearwater, Florida - where the Church of Scientology is headquartered - but recently moved into another building not associated with the religion. An alleged insider tells the magazine that Connor is losing interest in Scientology despite being a lifelong member as he's "subject to all its rules, which can be a drag for a young man."
The supposed source further contends that Cruise's son is embracing "outside interests," such as working on a fishing boat and dating a non-Scientologist. The magazine's article, however, is flat-out incorrect.
Just this week, People magazine published an article about Connor's bond with his dad and his life as a Scientologist. For starters, the young man never moved into his dad's new penthouse. He's been living on his own in a Scientology community in Clearwater for the past few years. The idea that working on a fishing boat is an "outside interest" doesn't make much sense either. Scientologists don't have specific occupations. In fact, there have been reports that Cruise bought his son a fishing boat so he could pursue his passion.
As for dating a non-Scientologist, that's not the case either. People magazine, which is infinitely more reliable than any tabloid, reported this week that Connor "is in a relationship with a fellow scientologist who also grew up in the religion." More significantly, Cruise and his son were spotted together in London this past weekend. The pair attended the International Association of Scientologists, an annual event hosted by the church. It's fairly clear that Connor is still dedicated to Scientology and has a great relationship with his father.
This isn't the first time the Enquirer has exploited Connor's involvement in the religion. In August, Gossip Cop busted the tabloid for making up a story about Nicole Kidman trying to get Connor and his sister Bella to leave Scientology. However, the actress herself has said she supports her kids' freedom to make their own choices, including their decision to be Scientologists.
The unreliable outlet has also printed fiction involving Cruise's relationship with his 13-year-old daughter Suri, who he shares with Katie Holmes. The movie star has been estranged from the young girl for several years, and it's widely believed because Holmes left Scientology with Suri. Last year, the magazine wrongly reported Cruise was trying to take back his daughter from Holmes and "lure" her into Scientology. That's not the case. The tabloid simply knows nothing about the movie star's relationships with any of his children.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
