A report claiming that Tom Cruise "flirted up a storm" with "Extra" host Renee Bargh during an interview is completely untrue. One of the tabloids is trying to create a nonexistent romance between the movie star and TV personality. Gossip Cop can set the record straight.
Bargh interviewed Cruise in Paris earlier this month to talk about his new movie Mission: Impossible - Fallout, and according to Woman's Day, sparks flew between the two during the press junket. The article, which was spread online by the Daily Mail, quotes an alleged insider as saying, "Tom usually loathes doing media, but it was like he forgot the camera was there as soon as he laid eyes on Renee."
From the very start, the outlet's story is inaccurate. As opposed to "loathing" media, Cruise has been credited with reinventing movie promotion. Deadline reported a few years back that the actor came up with the idea to hold Hollywood-style premieres in cities around the world. Cruise explained in an interview with the site, "I said let's do it so I can go to that city, have a premiere there, do the red carpet and press line, then go to the next city and do it again." Simply put, the actor has gone out of his way to spend more time talking to the press.
Still, the outlet's questionable source contends that Bargh "totally brought out the best" in Cruise, who "hasn't laughed like that in years." In reality, the movie star is all smiles during just about every interview he does. The supposed tipster continues, "Tom wanted to keep talking when the cameras were off, and who could blame him?"
From there, the unreliable magazine says the Bargh is crushing on the movie star as well simply because the "Extra" host posted an Instagram photo alongside Cruise at the premiere of Mission: Impossible - Fallout. This is hardly proof of a love affair. Dozens of journalists interviewed the actor at the premiere, and the majority of them took to Instagram to share the interaction.
For example, Sibley Scoles of E! News shared an Instagram photo of her and Cruise on a red carpet. "Entertainment Tonight" correspondent Sangita Patel posted an Instagram photo of herself hugging the movie star in front of the Eiffel Tower. And "ET" reporter Carly Steel shared an Instagram photo of her and Cruise at the film's Washington D.C. premiere. None of these TV personalities were romantically linked to the actor, despite all having the same easygoing dynamic during their respective interviews.
Cruise and Bargh were simply during their jobs, which is to be friendly and charismatic while promoting a movie. Regardless, a source close to the situation tells Gossip Cop on the condition of anonymity that the two didn't make a love connection during their interview, nor did they engage in any kind of flirt fest.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
