Tom Cruise wants to work with Nicole Kidman's pal Reese Witherspoon, which could result in a falling out between the Big Little Lies co-stars? That's the bogus claim in one of this week's tabloids. Gossip Cop looked into the situation and we've learned it's fabricated.
According to the National Enquirer, Cruise is eager to revamp his image by collaborating with Witherspoon, who's obviously very friendly with his ex-wife. An alleged source tells the magazine, "Tom's been very impressed with Reese's work and has approached her to work on something together. Tom really wants to reinvent himself as something more than an action star."
The supposed insider goes on to say that Witherspoon is flattered by the offer, but Cruise has been "laying it on a bit thick," adding, "He's been acting like she's his best friend - which freaks her out because they barely know each other!" The suspicious tipster further contends that Cruise saw how Kidman's career got a boost after teaming up with Witherspoon on Big Little Lies, and he's hoping for the same.
Witherspoon's friends, however, are supposedly warning her that helping Cruise "could rattle her friendship with Nicole." The seemingly phony source adds, "When Nicole finds out, she'll be gutted. She's confided in Reese about how miserable Tom made her. But business is business to Reese."
The tabloid's article has more in common with creative writing than it does with anything resembling reality. For starters, the idea that Cruise needs help with his career and that he no longer wants to star in action movies is baseless. Not only does the actor have the highly-anticipated Top Gun sequel being released next year, but Cruise is also gearing up to shoot back-to-back Mission: Impossible sequels.
Still, Gossip Cop checked in with a source close to the situation, who assures us the magazine's article is complete fiction. Cruise hasn't contacted Witherspoon about collaborating together, and the actress's friendship with Kidman isn't in danger over an imaginary scenario.
Unfortunately, the Enquirer has a habit of creating phony narratives surrounding the Mission: Impossible star and his ex-wife. Just last week, Gossip Cop busted the outlet for falsely claiming Kidman was sending messages to her adult kids with Cruise an effort to pry them away from Scientology.
The untrustworthy tabloid has also been known to make up stories involving Cruise and his other ex-wife, Katie Holmes. Last year, Gossip Cop called out the publication for wrongly reporting that the actor was trying to take back custody of their daughter Suri, who lives with her mom full-time. This latest article involving the movie star is more nonsense.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
