Tom Cruise did not ask Katie Holmes if he can spend the holidays with their 13-year-old daughter Suri. That phony premise is featured in one of the tabloids this week. Gossip Cop can correct it.
Cruise has been estranged from his daughter for more than six years, but according to Star, he reached out to Holmes in early December about organizing a reunion. "He left a message with her people," a supposed source tells the outlet. "She was speechless."
It's believed that Cruise hasn't seen his daughter because Holmes left Scientology with the young girl following their divorce. "So naturally Katie had some trepidation when she heard what Tom was asking for," adds the anonymous tipster. "But how could she possibly stand in the way of them seeing each other again? Despite everything Katie and Tom have been through, her main priority has always been Suri's happiness. Tom's come to his senses. He's finally chosen his daughter over Scientology. It's about time."
The alleged insider further contends that Cruise's first meeting with his daughter will be "awkward," as the movie star "isn't prepared for this version of Suri. She's not a baby anymore." The unknown source adds, "He's going to have to apologize for all the time he missed. That's the first phase. Then he's going to ask her about her life, school, friends, hobbies. He's missed it all. I don't know how he won't break down in tears - it's going to be a very emotional meeting."
From there, the unidentified insider speculates about how Suri will react to seeing her dad for the first time in years. "She might not jump for joy the moment she sees him," says the questionable tipster. "She's naturally very suspicious of new people, and Tom is basically a stranger to her now. She has a big heart and will accept Tom in time."
The tabloid's article is based on the word of an unidentified "source," but Holmes' spokesperson is going on the record to refute it. The actress's rep, who's qualified to speak on her behalf, confirms that Cruise never reached out to her about spending the holidays with Suri. The magazine doesn't even bother to flesh out its story with details about exactly when and where this reunion would be taking place.
Gossip Cop has debunked more variations of this narrative than we can count. We've even shot down several holiday-themed ones. Around this time year, Star falsely claimed Cruise was trying to take Suri away from Holmes on Christmas. That never happened. This past January, the tabloid wrongly reported that Cruise and Suri had reunited in Orlando. They didn't.
As recently as October, the tabloid pushed the reset button on the storyline. Gossip Cop called out the magazine for making up a story about Holmes setting up a meeting so Cruise and Suri could reunite. None of these various articles ever address the previous ones involving nonexistent reunions that didn't pan out. This latest one won't come to fruition either, but that won't stop Star from organizing more fake get-togethers in 2020.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
