Suri Cruise Kidnapped

(National Enquirer)

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ 13-year-old daughter Suri isn’t being targeted by kidnappers, despite a dramatic and misleading tabloid story alleging the young girl is in danger. Gossip Cop can correct the false report. In addition to being untrue, it’s filled with inaccuracies.

The cover of this week’s National Enquirer reads, “Suri Cruise Kidnap Nightmare!” Blurbs at the bottom of the page make references to a “$1 million ransom” and “how [her] frantic parents saved her from danger.” Naturally, the untrustworthy outlet wants readers to buy the magazine thinking there’s a story inside about Suri having been kidnapped. The inside article, however, simply suggest that Cruise and Holmes’ daughter could be a “million-dollar target” after she was photographed walking around New York City on July 29 “seemingly alone and unprotected.”

The report is filled with quotes from former police officers, one of whom states, “If I were Tom or Katie, I would make sure my daughter had armed, vetted security people following her every time she stepped out of the house.” Another former cop is quoted as saying, “Tom and Katie have reason to be terrified… there are monsters out there who put price tags on kids because their parents are celebrities.”

From there, one of the tabloid’s “security experts” insists that Holmes, who has full custody of her daughter, needs to be more careful about letting her walk the streets of NYC “with no protective adult.” But in addition to this story being a bait-and-switch designed to make it seem as if Suri had actually been kidnapped, it’s also totally inaccurate.

Gossip Cop checked in with Holmes’ spokesperson, who explains that Suri did in fact have security with her on the day in question, but they simply aren’t visible in the photos printed in the Enquirer. This makes the publication’s report completely pointless. The 13-year-old was never in danger of being kidnapped, despite the outlet’s over-the-top article, which is based on erroneous information. Every former officer quoted in the piece is responding to a scenario that wasn’t in play.

This wouldn’t be the first time the tabloid has tried to sell a deceptive premise about the teen. Exactly one year ago today, the magazine published a cover story making it seem as if Holmes had lost her daughter to Cruise in a “courtroom showdown.” The accompanying article simply said the movie star was “making an effort to be a part of Suri’s life again.” In reality, Suri has been estranged from her father for several years and remains in Holmes’ very capable hands.

Additionally, Gossip Cop busted the Enquirer back in 2017 for falsely claiming Holmes had asked Jamie Foxx to legally adopt Suri. That report was also absurd. It’s the unreliable tabloid that should stop targeting the young girl.
