Is Tom Cruise really begging John Travolta’s wife Kelly Preston to co-star alongside him in the upcoming Top Gun sequel? One of this week’s tabloids claims there’s drama going on between the fellow Scientologists over the situation. Gossip Cop can exclusively set the record straight.
According to Star, Cruise has been bombarding Preston with late-night texts and phone calls to get her to join the long-awaited sequel to his 1986 classic. The actress appeared with Cruise in 1996’s Jerry Maguire, but she had no involvement in the original Top Gun, so it’s unclear why the magazine is roping her into this narrative. For the record, it was Kelly McGillis who played Cruise’s love interest in the first movie.
Still, an alleged “source” tells the magazine, “Tom thinks she’s super talented, not to mention sexy.” Travolta, however, is supposedly angry about Cruise pursuing his wife because he has a major resentment against the fellow Scientologist. “John’s always been jealous of the church giving Tom top billing,” says the questionable insider. “Tom already gets whatever he wants, but John draws the line at his wife.”
However, this story seems to have been manufactured simply to create nonexistent tension between the two most famous members of Scientology. Gossip Cop is exclusively told on background by sources close to the situation that Cruise hasn’t approached Preston about co-starring in the Top Gun sequel. The upcoming movie, titled Top Gun: Maverick, is scheduled for a July 2019 release date, but all plot details are being kept under wraps. However, Gossip Cop can confirm that Travolta’s wife isn’t involved, and no trade outlets have reported otherwise.
It’s worth noting, this isn’t the first time that Star has concocted a bogus narrative surrounding Cruise and Travolta. In 2015, the untrustworthy outlet published an outrageous cover story claiming that the two Scientologists had been in a secret gay relationship for 30 years. Of course, Gossip Cop immediately debunked the ridiculous report.
Gossip Cop has also busted Star‘s sister publication, the National Enquirer, for printing several false articles about Travolta and Preston getting a divorce. Obviously, the spouses of nearly 30 years are still very much together. The actor and his wife have nothing to do with Cruise’s Top Gun sequel, despite a tabloid’s attempt to create nonexistent controversy.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
