Tom Cruise is not pursuing a romance with fellow Scientologist Elisabeth Moss, despite a completely inaccurate tabloid report claiming the famous church members may soon become a couple. Gossip Cop looked into the situation and we can exclusively set the record straight.
According to the National Enquirer, the movie star recently invited Moss to a “cozy” dinner in the hopes of wooing her. A so-called “source” tells the magazine, “Ever since his marriage to Katie Holmes ended in disaster, Tom has been looking for a woman who was already part of Scientology. He tried to bring Kate into the religion and it obviously didn’t work out very well.”
The outlet’s questionable insider adds, “Elisabeth seems like the perfect choice. She understands the demands of Scientology and a show business lifestyle. Both she and Tom have made the mistake of having relationships outside of Scientology and they don’t want to do that again. They are perfect for each other.”
It should be noted, however, the Enquirer has a very poor track record when it comes to accurately reporting about the actor’s love life. Earlier this year, Gossip Cop busted the outlet for falsely claiming Cruise was having “secret romantic meetings” with Angelina Jolie. We also called out the magazine for wrongly reporting Cruise was dating Paula Patton, his co-star in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. Naturally, Gossip Cop was quick to question to tabloid’s latest romance claims.
Our doubts were confirmed after checking in with a source close to the situation, who exclusively assures us the publication’s report is simply “not true.” Cruise never asked Moss out on a dinner date, nor is he pursuing a relationship with the actress. It seems the Enquirer simply took two famous Scientologists of the opposite sex and decided to concoct a fake romance between them, because there’s no accuracy to any of this.
