Tom Cruise's relationship with his estranged daughter Suri is frequently written about in the tabloids. Many of the stories surrounding the two are pure fiction. Gossip Cop has compiled a few wrong rumors we've debunked.
Last month, Gossip Cop busted Grazia for falsely claiming Katie Holmes wanted Jamie Foxx to replace Cruise as Suri's "father figure." Cruise hasn't seen the young girl in several years, and according to the magazine, Holmes was encouraging Foxx to "step up" and become a "parental figure" to the 13-year-old. In reality, Holmes and Foxx live on different coasts and have their own separate lives. It doesn't appear Foxx has spent much time with the actress's daughter, and she certainly never asked him to take over the dad role from Cruise.
Also last month, Gossip Cop called out Woman's Day Australia for alleging that Holmes feared Suri was going to be recruited for Scientology by Cruise's 26-year-old daughter Bella. According to the outlet, the actress was worried about her former stepdaughter and Suri's half-sister luring her into the controversial religion. The report was based on claims from an anonymous "insider," but Holmes rep told us on the record it was completely untrue. There's also no indication that Suri has much of a relationship with Bella.
In March, Gossip Cop debunked a New Idea story about Suri running away from home to see Cruise. The magazine maintained that the young girl fled her mom's New York City apartment and jetted off to Clearwater, Florida, where her dad owns a penthouse. The story was based on a photo of Suri wheeling a suitcase outside of her New York apartment, but the unreliable outlet failed to mention that she was accompanied by Holmes. The picture was taken before the two traveled to Greece together. The tabloid also failed to explain how Suri supposedly booked a flight without parental supervision. Additionally, Cruise was in California shooting Top Gun: Maverick at the time the phony article was published.
Gossip Cop busted Star in January for wrongly reporting that Cruise reunited with Suri in Orlando. The story emerged after Holmes was spotted vacationing with Foxx in Miami. According to the tabloid, the actress chose the location because of its proximity to Orlando. A supposed source told the magazine, "Besides his new pad in Orlando, he's looking for a New York penthouse to lease so he can be closer to Suri." One major issue with the outlet's article was that Cruise doesn't own a property in Orlando. The actor has a penthouse in Clearwater, where the Church of Scientology's international headquarters are located, and which is 100 miles away from Orlando. Holmes' spokesperson also confirmed that the story was made-up.
And finally, Gossip Cop called out Star last year for making up a story about Cruise quitting Scientology to reunite with Suri. The tabloid claimed the actor feared the church would "set out to destroy him" if he left, but he was willing to take the risk to see his daughter. Shortly after we debunked the bogus report, Cruise purchased his penthouse near Scientology's headquarters in Clearwater. The actor, who's been a committed member of Scientology for more than 30 years, never left the religion and remains estranged from Suri.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
