Did Tom Cruise reunite with his 12-year-old daughter Suri in Orlando? That's the claim in one of this week's tabloids. Gossip Cop looked into the situation and we can set the record straight.
The week before New Year's, Katie Holmes and Jamie Foxx were spotted vacationing on a yacht in Miami. According to Star, the actress chose the location because of its proximity to Orlando, where Cruise supposedly spent time with Suri after several years of being estranged from the little girl. The magazine further contends that Holmes was on edge throughout her Miami getaway "and kept her lawyers on speed dial."
"Tom's had moments of attentiveness toward Suri since he and Katie split in 2012, and Katie's never stopped Suri from seeing her dad, but she's pretty stunned that Tom's choosing to be present in her life at this time," an alleged insider tells the magazine. "Besides his new pad in Orlando, he's looking for a New York penthouse to lease so he can be closer to Suri."
The magazine's article is flawed from the very start. The movie star doesn't own a home in Orlando. Last year, Cruise purchased a penthouse in Clearwater, Florida, where the Church of Scientology's international headquarters are located. Clearwater and Orlando are around 100 miles apart. Considering that the magazine's "insider" doesn't know where Cruise lives, it's hard to believe any aspect of this article.
Still, the seemingly phony tipster goes on to say that Holmes believes her ex-husband only wants to reconnect with their daughter as a ploy to benefit the Church of Scientology. "The church has asked Tom to play nice with his kid - and then their mother," adds the suspicious source. "They don't want to force Katie and Suri to go back to the religion, though that would be the dream. It's more like they want Katie and Suri to passively coexist with the church so potential followers would be less suspicious."
Holmes reluctantly allowed the reunion, according to the "insider," as the actress "can't bring herself to stand in the way of Tom and Suri's relationship." The seemingly nonexistent source adds, "It means so much to her little girl after missing her daddy for so long."
None of this is remotely true. Star is the same tabloid that wrongly reported a year ago that Cruise was quitting Scientology to reunite with Suri. That clearly never happened. This latest article says the church advised the actor to reunite with his daughter to repair their image. The premises are contradictory and neither one is accurate.
Gossip Cop checked in with Holmes' rep, who tells us on the record that the actress's daughter didn't spend time with Cruise in Orlando before New Year's. The young girl hasn't seen her father in several years, and that remains the case. Star has zero insight into the movie star's relationship with Suri.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
