Are Tom Cruise and Cher dating again more than 30 years after having a brief fling? That's the claim in one of this week's tabloids. Gossip Cop looked into the romance rumors and we've learned the truth.
The movie star and iconic singer had a brief relationship in 1985 when he was just 22-years-old, but according to the Globe, they've rekindled a romance all these years later. An alleged insider tells the magazine, "They can't deny what they have felt for years any longer. There's no question they've been lusting after each other all this time. They're back together and meeting for sexy hookups in Hawaii, Vegas and L.A., with no strings attached."
The outlet's supposed source goes on to say that the 16-year age difference isn't an issue for Cruise because the 56-year-old actor "hasn't been able to find a woman his age and Cher is looking fabulous. She might be 72, but she has the body of a 35-year-old." The questionable tipster adds, "Their friends seem to think they've filled a specific need for each other. They certainly seem thrilled to be back in each other's arms."
The tabloid's story is based on rumors from an anonymous and untraceable "insider," but Gossip Cop checked in with Cher's rep, who tells us on the record that she's not dating Cruise. The magazine seems to have concocted this article because Cher discussed her fling with Cruise in an interview with the Daily Mail last month. But just because the singer revisited the romance in a recent interview doesn't mean she's doing it in real life.
In fact, Cher said in the same interview that she's not dating anyone at the moment, adding, "The problem I have with all the boyfriends lately is that I don't want to go any place with them because you can't keep a relationship going in this kind of goldfish bowl, where everything you do and every picture you have taken will be on Instagram." Simply put, if the singer were truly having wild romps with Cruise in Hawaii, Las Vegas and Los Angeles, it's nearly impossible they wouldn't have been spotted together.
Oddly enough, this isn't the first time the Globe has made up a bogus story involving the actor and a legendary singer. Just last month, Gossip Cop busted the tabloid for falsely claiming that Cruise was trying to recruit Barbara Streisand to join Scientology. This latest article is more fiction from the unreliable outlet.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
