Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are not competing with Leslie Jones to host the Oscars, despite a report. Gossip Cop can exclusively correct the story.
RadarOnline blares in a headline on Friday, “Oscar Showdown! Leslie Jones Battles Tina Fey & Amy Poehler For Hosting Gig.” The accompanying story says, “And the job goes to? While Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are the current front-runners to host the upcoming Oscars in February, insiders say there’s been a huge push to rip the prestigious gig away from the comedians and award it to SNL star Leslie Jones instead!”
“Tina and Amy are asking for a hell of a lot of money to do the job,” a so-called “source” tells the outlet, which claims that consequently, Jones “came up as a possible replacement.” The supposed snitch alleges, “She’s in with an even better chance now. There’s a huge argument for appointing Leslie after her Olympics social media coverage impressed everyone.”
But after Jones was hacked last month and nude photos posted online, it’s said she’s feeling “insecure” and not confident she’ll get the Academy Awards gig. “She’s convinced the hacking of her site, with naked pictures and racist insults, has destroyed any chances of getting the job,” claims the alleged tipster, who adds that on the contrary, Jones has “actually garnered even more supporters from the cyber attack and she’s slowly overtaking Tina and Amy as the Academy’s number one choice.”
Gossip Cop, however, looked into these allegations, and our rock-solid contacts were unaware of Jones being in contention for the Oscars hosting position. “Not true,” says one of our insiders. It’s also worth noting that there’s been little to no evidence Fey and Poehler are tapped for the job, either. Regardless, Gossip Cop is assured there’s no Oscar “showdown” or “battle” between the women.
