Tiger Woods says he’s getting “professional help” for medication and pain management. See statement below.

As Gossip Cop reported, Woods was arrested for DUI last month. While the immediate assumption was that the golfer was drunk, driving under the influence is a catch-all for intoxication from all illegal substances, not just booze. And following the arrest, Woods said in a statement that he was not drinking. Rather, he blamed the incident on a “reaction” to medication.

Now the superstar athlete is seeking help. In a statement posted to Twitter on Monday night, Woods said, “I’m currently receiving professional help to manage my medications and the ways that I deal with back pain and a sleep disorder. I want to thank everyone for the amazing outpouring of support and understanding especially the fans and players on tour.”

Woods’ comments follow unconfirmed reports that he entered rehab in the wake of the arrest. On Sunday, however, he was seen out with his children in Florida, where he is based, for Father’s Day. That appearance and the wording of his statement suggests the former champion is getting out-patient treatment. It is possible, though, that he started with an in-patient, residential program and has now transitioned.

Regardless, the criminal case against Woods is still pending. Following the arrest, police said they found him essentially asleep at the wheel and largely non-coherent. His arraignment is scheduled for July 5. The admission that he is getting professional help could potentially mitigate any eventual punishment. Gossip Cop will continue to have updates as appropriate. See Woods’ tweet, which broke his social media silence, below.
