The Weeknd did not dress up as Justin Bieber for Halloween, despite an utterly ridiculous claim. The assertion is absurdly based on a photo of The Weeknd dressed normally for a night on the town. Gossip Cop can bust this nonsense.
According to OK!, "The Weeknd's latest selfie, a rare occurrence for the pop star, bares a striking resemblance to a young Justin Bieber!" The tabloid asks on its website, "Is this a Halloween costume or is he trying to win back his ex Selena Gomez?" Uh, it's neither. But accompanying the snapshot in question, the gossip magazine writes, "The Weeknd posted a photo of himself in a green letterman jacket, similar to one Justin was once photographed in with Selena."
The two coats have a passing resemblance to one another, but Bieber wore his several years ago. The outlet wants readers to believe The Weeknd happened to see that old photo and decided to copy the style. What's more is the publication goes on to say, "In fact, the Biebs has been making the letterman jacket a part of his look for a while now. Was The Weeknd mocking him in his Instagram?"
The tabloid then wrongly contends Bieber is "to blame for Selena and the Weeknd's breakup," and notes that none of the parties have commented. "Maybe this costume was the singer's way to get back at his ex?" asks the magazine, "Do you think The Weeknd's outfit was a jab at Justin?" No and no.
The Weeknd wasn't dressed up for Halloween and nothing about his appearance had anything to do with Bieber. The Weeknd took the Instagram photo of himself before heading out to a club, which is why he captioned it, "Toronto Nights." He then went to the launch party for Offset, 21 Savage and Metro Boomin's new album. That bash had nothing to do with Halloween, yet in video of The Weeknd at the club, he's wearing the same jacket that has OK! all in a tizzy.
Gossip Cop has seen a lot of what we call "reaches" over the years, pathetic attempts to connect things that aren't the least bit related. The outlet is certainly reaching here by trying to tie an outfit The Weeknd wore for a night of partying to Bieber and Gomez. It's also pretty rich coming from the same publication that tried to dupe readers into thinking The Weeknd and Gomez were engaged back in May. Fortunately, Gossip Cop is here to separate fact from fiction, and we'll continue to do so as necessary. Unlike the tabloid, we're not about tricks, on Halloween or any day.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
