The View Wonder Woman Box Office

Wonder Woman blew away expectations with more than $100 million at the box office this past weekend. On Monday’s “The View,” the co-hosts reacted to the movie’s success and discussed what it will mean for the role of women in Hollywood.

As Gossip Cop reported, Wonder Woman broke the record for the highest-grossing opening weekend for a female director. During a “Hot Topics” segment on the morning talk show, co-host Whoopi Goldberg noted, “Wonder Woman kicked some butt this weekend at the box office… People’s mouths are open.” She went on to note that the 2009 Oscar-winning war drama The Hurt Locker “was also a huge film directed by a woman,” adding, “I’m hoping at some point someone will recognize that some of the best directors happen to be women as well.”

“I’ve always been a huge Wonder Woman fan,” revealed co-host Sunny Hostin, who further admitted she still has Underoos of the DC Comics character. “I thought it was so powerful to see this role where the woman was unapologetically strong and then she came from an island of unapologetically strong warrior women.” Jedediah Bila noted, “There was so much talk about whether a female-led superhero movie would generate crowds. Are we ready for it?” The film’s huge box office, she said, has clearly indicated that “people are.” “Men are gonna go see it in droves,” Hostin added, to which Bila noted, “And they already are.” Watch the full video below.
