The View TSA Pat Down

Footage of a TSA pat-down of a young boy has gone viral, and sparked a strong reaction on “The View” on Tuesday. Check out the video below.

Jennifer Williamson documented on Facebook the two-minute pat-down her special-needs son received at the Dallas-Fort Worth airport, despite not setting off any alarms when he walked through the metal detector. The family was detained for 45 minutes and ended up missing their flight. The video has now been viewed more than 5 million times.

The panelists on the ABC talk show all saw it, prompting Whoopi Goldberg to remark, “Watching the TSA agent, it’s very uncomfortable. He’s touching in places where you can’t touch me. I would end up in jail.” The problem, Sunny Hostin revealed, is that “new procedures” were enacted earlier this month, and most people don’t know about them, even though they are “very invasive.”

Goldberg and the rest of the co-hosts were upset to learn there wasn’t mass notification of the changes. “You know that they’re going to pat you down, but if you’re going to change how you do it, wouldn’t it be smart to tell people how you’re going to do it?” asked the moderator.

Jedediah Bila revealed she was subject to this new pat-down when the show recently went to Disney World. “I didn’t get an explanation that anything had changed, but [the pat-down] was very long and it was very detailed. I was very uncomfortable,” she said, adding, “If I had known, I would’ve been mentally prepared.”

Goldberg suggested the TSA do something viral, like a music video, to “demonstrate” the new protocol. “Let me know you’re going to feel me in ways I may not be comfortable with,” she insisted. For its part, the TSA said “all approved procedures were followed” with the young boy, and argued his search was appropriate because his laptop set off an alarm. Watch below.
