On Monday’s “The View,” the co-hosts reacted to the terrorist-related explosion at Port Authority in New York City. Watch the video below.

During the morning rush-hour commute on Monday, there was a bombing in the subway tunnel below the bus terminal. The homemade device, however, apparently malfunctioned, limiting its damage. The suspect, who is now in custody, was injured as were three others. The mayor of New York City later deemed the act an “attempted terrorist attack.”

On the ABC talk show, the scary incident was the first subject discussed, with Whoopi Goldberg observing, “This really threw a lot of people into [a state of] terror.” Sunny Hostin commented, “New Yorkers travel by subway. That’s the thing. It’s the easiest way to get around the city. I got so many texts and emails from family members. I was trying to reach my husband because we all take the subway.”

She continued, “And I have always felt, ‘Is it a soft target? Are we doing everything we can to protect ourselves?’ And I hear that New York does an incredible job protecting our subways and our buses, so hats off for the men and women that protect us.” Joy Behar remarked, “This time we dodged bullet, because the guy had a premature blow-up there. Otherwise, he would’ve done more damage.”

Goldberg, however, was hopeful that this event will ultimately make Manhattan safer. “I think people now say, ‘Okay, this is one more thing we need to keep an eye on,'” she said, going on to compare the situation to fixing a pipe that needs better protection. “It’s like you find out where your leaks are. You chew some gum, put it in there, chew some more gum, put it in there and everywhere you look… we find them and we do them.”

The moderator went on to note there are problems on the West Coast this morning, too, with the ongoing wildfires. Check out the video below.
