The View Oscars Best Picture

On Monday’s “The View,” the co-hosts reacted to the Oscars Best Picture mistake. Watch below!

As Gossip Cop reported, La La Land was wrongly announced as the Oscar winner instead of Moonlight at Sunday’s Academy Awards. The gaffe happened after presenter Warren Beatty was given the envelope for Best Actress, which La La Land star Emma Stone won, instead of the results for Best Picture. It was the first time in history such a mistake took place.

Now on the ABC talk show the morning after, Whoopi Goldberg said, “If you happened to go to bed early last night, you might’ve missed one of the [most] honest moments in an awards show that I can remember.” After showing footage, Joy Behar quipped, “Warren’s looking at it — he’s thinking, ‘did I sleep with Emma Stone or was it Sharon Stone?'”

Sara Haines questioned Beatty having Faye Dunaway do the actual announcement, saying, “I was like, ‘Oh my god, did he throw her under the bus? Did he not want to take responsibility?’ It was just a big mix-up.” Jedediah Bila offered, “These things happen. This is okay.”

But Goldberg said, “This is not supposed to happen. This has never happened before… Pricewaterhouse has prided themselves on 79 or 80 years of this.” She went on, “It’s kind of a crazy mix-up, but that’s the Academy Awards. It’s live. That’s why you want somebody like Jimmy Kimmel [hosting].”

On the bright side, Behar joked, “It knocked Donald Trump of the front page for a second.” And Bila praised, “The way they handled it was so professional and so nice. It just showed their humanity.” And, as an Oscar winner herself, Goldberg said she was “surprised” by what went down. She asked, “Can you imagine if a mix-up like this happened at the middle of the show?” Check out the full video below. NOTE: The video is no longer available.
