On Monday’s “The View,” the co-hosts reacted to writer Kurt Eichenwald saying he wants Republicans to see their family members “die.” Watch the video below.

Whoopi Goldberg kicked off the episode by saying that not only is healthcare the “hottest topic” right now, but “the gloves seem to be off. People are getting loud and really kind of pissy across the country.” As evidence, she pointed to a since-deleted tweet from Kurt Eichenwald, a Newsweek staffer who suffers from epilepsy. Upset about the American Healthcare Act not adequately covering pre-existing conditions, he wrote on Twitter, “As one w/ preexisting condition: I hope every GOPr who voted 4 Trumpcare sees a family member get long term condition, lose & and die.”

After reading the message aloud, Goldberg declared, “That’s kind of where folks are at.” Sunny Hostin understood Eichenwald’s point that “sometimes people can’t empathize with others unless they have a close family member” going through such illnesses, but stated, “He said it a little unartfully.” Goldberg countered, “I don’t think that’s unartful. I think that’s somebody who’s suffering from something. [He’s saying,] ‘You’re giving me the middle finger so I’m giving five fingers back.'”

Jedediah Bila, however, though Eichenwald went way too far. “This is terrible. When I read this, this made me sick,” she insisted. She went on to debate the panelists about why the writer was out of line, and why the AHCA isn’t as bad in this area as some think. For her part, Sara Haines agreed that Eichenwald’s comments were “harsh on the surface,” but understood why he was coming at it “so personally.”

She defended, “I think it was hard to react to this with any sense of calm or logic when you’re talking about people facing these illnesses, and this gentleman faces epilepsy and his wife is going to be responsible for his healthcare.” Check out the video below.
