On Thursday’s “The View,” the co-hosts reacted to a clip from the upcoming episode of “Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” in which Kim Kardashian tells her sister Kendall Jenner that she’s “not comfortable” with her owning a gun for protection. Watch the panel debate the situation in the video below.

A promo for this Sunday’s episode of the reality show features Jenner admitting she’s considering purchasing a firearm because there are constantly stalkers outside of her house. But Kardashian, an advocate for gun safety laws, says she doesn’t think owning a gun is necessary. “I’m not comfortable with it,” the reality star told her sister. “I wouldn’t want my kids around it. I wouldn’t want sleepovers going on here with the kids here and I know there’s a gun.” Kardashian also doubted a gun would have helped her during last year’s Paris robbery.

Sunny Hostin somewhat agreed with the sentiment, saying, “If my kids are going over to your house, I want to know if you are a gun owner and whether or not the gun is locked up. I certainly ask that.” But she also acknowledged, “When my husband is away and I’m alone with my children, I worry about my ability to protect my family.” Joy Behar noted that she purchased a gun years ago while living in remote area with her family, explaining that she was “petrified” when her then-husband left her alone with their dogs and baby. “At that point, I said I want to learn how to use a handgun.”

Behar further explained that she’s not against the second amendment, but she’s also “not interested in an AR-15 to shoot deer as if the deer are in ISIS.” Sara Haines added, “Someone like Kendall and people who are famous, the stalkers are a big issue. Over the years, we’ve heard about people who get through and kill people. The idea of a stalker coming around your house, I can totally see why she’d want to protect herself.”

After Behar noted that most homes also have security systems, Whoopi Goldberg interjected, “I can tell you this from experience, people cut alarms. They can cut your wires.” She added, “I’m a gun owner. I think responsible gun owners don’t mind if you check into your past… I think when people educate themselves about guns and how to protect yourself, I get that. We all get that. But I think it’s interesting that this discussion is happening, even with [the Kardashians].”

Meanwhile, Meghan McCain said she’s surprised Kardashian’s position on guns “didn’t change after her assault in Paris, because 200,000 sexual assaults were prevented by self defense with firearms last year.” The co-host added, “She said she didn’t think she could reach the gun in time, so obviously it’s a very personal issue for each person, but I don’t think she should tell her little sister who has a bunch of stalkers that she shouldn’t necessarily look into it as well.” Watch the videos from “The View” and “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” below.
