On Thursday’s “The View,” the co-hosts expressed support for John McCain in the wake of his brain cancer diagnosis. Watch the video below.

As Gossip Cop reported, it was announced on Wednesday night that McCain was diagnosed with brain cancer after having surgery to remove a blood clot that was lodged near his eye. Now on the ABC talk show, Whoopi Goldberg noted that lawmakers on both sides of the political aisle are coming together to wish the senator well because he’s a “rare breed” in Washington, “someone who will actually defend the other side.”

As evidence, Goldberg showed an old clip of McCain telling a woman who called Barack Obama an “Arab” that he is actually a decent American citizen. With his absence from the senate, Joy Behar called on Lindsay Graham, Ben Sasses and Susan Collins to “step up” in his place. “He’s the role model. He’s the person who will speak truth to power. To his own power,” she said of McCain.

Agreed Sunny Hostin, “He’s such an American hero. He spent five years as a POW.” Sara Haines noted, “He is someone who brought both sides… He was someone you can get on board with.” And Jedediah Bila praised McCain for being a politician who “actually believes what he says he believes” and “fights for the best policy.”

She added that Americans will now have “his back,” which prompted Goldberg to say, “Americans, regardless of politics, have always had his back.” She pointed out how people rallied around McCain after he was disparaged by Donald Trump, who once said, “He’s not a war hero. He’s a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren’t captured.”

“I could not believe they voted for Trump after that comment,” Behar said, adding, “It’s so despicable to say something like that. It’s so unpatriotic.” Goldberg expressed, “Americans did not put up with that,” but Bila noted, “Unfortunately some did.” As Gossip Cop reported, Bila was one of the celebrities who reacted to the McCain cancer news on Twitter.
