The View Ivanka G20

“The View” co-hosts on Monday debated whether it was appropriate for Ivanka Trump to sit in a G20 meeting on her father’s behalf. Check out the video below.

As Gossip Cop reported, “The View” recently discussed Ivanka saying she tries to “stay out of politics.” But at the G20 summit on Saturday, Ivanka took dad Donald’s place when he temporarily stepped out of a meeting with world leaders. Seeing that, Whoopi Goldberg now said on the ABC talk show, “We were a little surprised [because] she said she didn’t want to do [politics].”

Jedediah Bila, however, expressed, “This didn’t surprise me.” She explained how that when a leader steps out, “someone from the delegation will step in.” She also read Angela Merkel’s statement defending Ivanka’s actions. That said, Bila went on, “The problem for me comes into play is because Ivanka, half the time she remembers she’s part of this political structure, half the time she forgets.”

Sunny Hostin had an issue with Ivanka’s involvement regardless. A democracy, she said, is “about people being elected by the people, not being appointed by birth. I’m more comfortable with the person that was elected into government.” And Sara Haines’ complaint was about the president’s tweeted defense.

He wrote on Twitter on Monday, “If Chelsea Clinton were asked to hold the seat for her mother, as her mother gave our country away, the Fake News would say CHELSEA FOR PRES!” Haines pointed out, “The campaign is over. Hillary Clinton is not in this but he keeps bringing this up. And I don’t think Hillary would do that.”

Goldberg honed in on the “gave our country away” part. “Is that what he’s been doing?” she asked, adding, “It’s an interesting choice of words.” And all seemed to approve of Chelsea’s response, in which she wrote, “Good morning Mr. President. It would never have occurred to my mother or my father to ask me. Were you giving our country away? Hoping not.”

Of the president’s reliance on the First Daughter, Joy Behar argued, “He wants that little dog next to him at all times. There’s a loyalty. There’s a total trust. Your daughter is not going to turn on you. It’s very mafia.” And an increasingly exasperated Hostin exclaimed, “She does pocketbooks and shoes! She shouldn’t be sitting at the G20!”

But, noting the president’s own inexperience with politics, Bila pointed out, “You can make the same argument for him” and he was elected. Watch the video below.
