Hitman's Bodyguard Box Office Third Weekend

The Hitman’s Bodyguard won the Labor Day weekend box office, notching its third week in a row at number one. But that achievement wasn’t actually a huge victory. Get the details about the end of the summer season, and check out the full Top 10 for this weekend’s movies below.

As Gossip Cop has reported, The Hitman’s Bodyguard, starring Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson, topped the film rankings following its premiere two weeks ago and held on to first place last week. But its grosses have been puny, a sign of the overall problem with moviegoing this summer, which ranked as the lowest in 11 years. And while The Hitman’s Bodyguard is now the only film this summer to keep the number one spot for three weeks, it was helped by the fact that there were no new wide releases this holiday weekend. Every single film in the Top 10 was a hold-over from past weeks.

Following The Hitman’s Bodyguard, which grossed $10.25 million for Friday through Sunday, there was Annabelle: Creation in second place with $7.3 million. Wind River, which features Avengers co-stars Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen, came in the third position with $5.9 million. A haul of $4.9 million put the animated movie Leap! in fourth place, while the star-studded Logan Lucky raked in $4.4 million to land in the number five spot.

Rounding out the Top 10 were Dunkirk in sixth place with receipts of $4.1 million. Spider-Man: Homecoming, one of the summer’s few successes, added another $3.7 million to its haul to nab seventh. The Emoji Movie secured eighth place with ticket sales of $2.5 million, while Despicable Me 3 came in ninth with $2.4 million. Just making it into the last spot in the Top 10 was Girls Trip. The movie made $2.3 million over the holiday weekend. It’s believed this year’s Labor Day box office was the worst in 17 years.
