A new story claiming British actresses Keira Knightley, Sophie Turner, Rosamund Pike and Sienna Miller are fighting to play Princess Diana on the third season of “The Crown” is completely made-up. Gossip Cop can correct this report, which can be found in one of this week’s tabloids. We’re told it’s “not true.”

According to the latest issue of In Touch, a slew of actresses from the UK are battling to land the coveted role of Princess Diana on Netflix’s “The Crown.” A so-called “source” is quoted as telling the gossip magazine, “The competition is fierce. Actresses are lining up and will do whatever it takes.”

The publication’s alleged “insider” maintains, “Some have already sent audition tapes of themselves in full Diana regalia to show [creator] Peter Morgan and [casting director] Nina Gold.” The outlet’s supposed “source” further claims that among the “top contenders” are Knightley, Pike, Miller and “Games of Thrones” star Turner. “But lesser-known actresses want the part, too. Whoever lands it will be catapulted to a whole new level of fame,” adds the tabloid’s questionable tipster.

While it’s true “The Crown” is currently in the process of casting for season 3, the show’s creator isn’t trying to find the perfect actress to take on the role of Prince William and Prince Harry’s late mother quite yet. “Diana’s not in this season,” casting director Gold told Vanity Fair earlier this month. She went on to say the character of Princess Diana could potentially be introduced in the show’s fourth season. “When we do get to her, that is going to be pretty interesting,” said Gold.

Clearly, the In Touch article, which appears to have had its roots in an earlier British tabloid report, is nothing more than a fabrication. There are no “top contenders” to play the part right now because “The Crown” isn’t casting for Princess Diana yet, as evidenced by Gold’s own remarks. Still, Gossip Cop still investigated the story, and a source close to the production, who wasn’t authorized to speak on the record, also tells us the claims are 100 percent “not true.” Simply, Turner, Pike, Miller and Knightley are not competing for the role of Princess Diana on the show at this time, nor will the late royal even be featured in the upcoming season of the program. Additionally, all four British actresses have already attained a tremendous amount of fame, so this kind of project won’t exactly be the kind of game-changer the story makes it out to be.

Additionally, this isn’t the first time Gossip Cop has corrected this same magazine for publishing an inaccurate article about the royal family and “The Crown.” In 2016, we busted the outlet when it falsely contended Queen Elizabeth was petrified the “The Crown” would expose the monarchy’s darkest secrets. That was far from true, and the same goes for this latest story surrounding the period drama.
