Taylor Swift X Men

Taylor Swift is not making a cameo in X-Men: Apocalypse as the mutant singer Dazzler, despite a slew of inaccurate reports. Gossip Cop can correct these off-base stories. We’re exclusively told it’s “not true.”

According to a report first published Collider and then regurgitated without any fact-checking by Entertainment Weekly, floundering web giant Yahoo, and several others outlets, Swift may make an appearance in the upcoming movie X-Men: Apocalypse. Where did they all come up with this? Collider noted that X-Men: Apocalypse writer and producer Simon Kinberg posted a photo last summer in Montreal of himself with Swift and the movie’s stars, James McAvoy, and Sophie Turner.

The next supposed piece of evidence was that Turner last week tweeted a picture from X-Men: Apocalypse that shows her character and Cyclops (Tye Sheridan) in a record shop, where he’s holding an album by Dazzler, a mutant singer in the Marvel universe. Turner accompanied the photo with the message, “That time Cyclops and I went shopping at the mall and found our favorite singer’s album (pre 1989, of course).” The name of Swift’s hit album was 1989. The film site noted, “It’s not too much of a stretch to imagine Taylor Swift playing a famous rock star mutant in X-Men: Apocalypse.”

“Entertainment Weekly” expressed, “It does makes sense” that Swift would be in the movie. And Yahoo added, “While nothing about [the] photo [of Swift with Kinberg, McAvoy and Turner] suggested it was taken on set, ‘Apocalypse’ was in production at the time, and it was certainly enough to imply that Swift may have had some involvement in the film.”

But they are all wrong. The photo of Swift with the screenwriter and stars of X-Men: Apocalypse has nothing to do with her possibly making a cameo. Swift was in Montreal at the same time the film was shooting there, but she was in Canada for one of her 1989 shows, which Kinberg, McAvoy and Turner attended and with whom the singer later hung out. Swift’s rep exclusively tells Gossip Cop the reports about her appearing in X-Men: Apocalypse are entirely “not true.”
