Taylor Swift testified in a Denver court room on Thursday that deejay David Mueller put his hand under her skirt and grabbed her “bare ass cheek” during a meet-and-greet. It marked the first time the superstar has spoken publicly about the incident.

As Gossip Cop has reported, Mueller sued Swift in 2015, claiming he was wrongfully fired from his Colorado radio job after she falsely claimed he groped her backstage at a 2013 concert. She in turn countersued him, alleging he sexually assaulted her. It was revealed at the start of the trial earlier this week that Swift is seeking just $1 in damages should she win the civil case. Her lawyer explained in an opening statement that this lawsuit is not about money, but the rights of women to have control over their own bodies.

While sitting on the witness stand, Swift had to recount what happened that fateful day from her perspective. “It was a definite grab,” she said of Mueller touching her butt, underneath her outfit as they posed for what was intended to be a formal photo. “He stayed latched on to my bare ass check as I moved away from him visibly uncomfortable.” Indeed, the picture, which was leaked online, shows Swift leaning towards Mueller’s companion, with a gap between her and the deejay, who appears to have his hand in the vicinity of her rear-end.

Swift reiterated that Mueller “grabbed my ass underneath my skirt,” and was “too busy” doing that to grab anywhere else. “It was a very shocking thing that I have never dealt with before,” she testified. The songstress recalled thanking Mueller and his girlfriend in a “monotone” voice and said she continued with the meet-and-greet so as not to disappoint waiting fans. When Mueller’s counsel argued she could have taken a break, Swift fired back, “And your client could have taken a normal photo with me.”

The opposing lawyer also tried to claim that there aren’t eyewitnesses to support her allegation, to which she pointed out that there was a wall behind them, so no one could have directly seen exactly where his hand was. Additionally, she noted that she told her photographer what happened afterward, and the staffer immediately knew to which person Swift was referring, and said she had the photo evidence from the front perspective. Swift also rejected the insinuation that her security team should be blamed for not stopping the incident.

“It was horrifying, shocking and we had never experienced it before,” she explained, adding to Mueller’s attorney that instead of being critical of her bodyguard, “I’m critical of your client sticking his hand under my skirt and grabbing my ass.” And as someone who has spent time with thousands of people at similar events over the years, Swift stressed, “I have experienced every awkward encounter. This was not jostling. We were perfectly in position for the photograph to be taken.” And, contrary to Mueller’s own testimony, she maintained, “He did not touch my rib. He did not touch my hand. He grabbed my bare ass.”

Swift’s liaison with the radio station also testified on Wednesday that he did not call for Mueller to be fired, which Swift also now confirmed while on the stand. “I am not going to allow your client to make me feel like it is any way my fault because it isn’t,” the singer said, also pushing back against the idea that this is a case of mistaken identity. “He had a handful of my ass. I know it was him,” she insisted. “I wouldn’t need that photograph. I could have picked him out of a line of a thousand.”

The questioning, which lasted for a little less than an hour, did not feature Swift’s own attorney. It’s unclear if she will be back on the stand when they present their side of the case. The singer’s own mom, Andrea, testified on Wednesday, saying that her daughter came into the dressing room upset afterward, but they did not go to the police because they did not want to make the incident publicly known. That changed when Mueller sued Swift for $3 million. Gossip Cop will continue to have updates as appropriate.
