Taylor Swift was not carried out of her New York apartment in a large suitcase, despite a slew of inaccurate (and funny) reports. Gossip Cop can exclusively correct the claim that she snuck out of her Manhattan home in a large piece of luggage that was lifted by her security team. We’re told it’s untrue.

The story began to get picked up after the photo agency Splash News sent out a shot of two bodyguards lugging a super heavy black suitcase out of Swift’s apartment, with a caption that read,”Taylor Swift being transported in a huge suitcase from her Tribeca apartment into her truck, in the trunk.” The caption to the photo further noted that “almost a dozen of Taylor Swift security guards were present to move this package carefully as Taylor Swift remains to be unseen for a long time.” See the photo below of the her security team carrying the heavy piece of luggage outside her place before placing it into a vehicle’s trunk. Of course, there’s nothing really in the picture to indicate the multimillion-dollar singer is in the suitcase.

To recap, Splash News was actually under the impression that Swift curled up her five-foot, 10-inch frame into an airless suitcase, and was placed in the trunk of a car so that no one could see her. The agency, of course, did not fact-check its hunch, and incredibly neither did a number of outlets, including the Irish radio station Spin 1038. Most places simply gleefully ran stories about the singing superstar being shoved into a black suitcase and driven away.

Naturally, Gossip Cop looked into the claim and a mutual pal of ours and Swift tells us it’s untrue and beyond absurd. For the record, Swift is also never transported in garment bags, fanny packs, knapsacks, children’s birthday loot bags, or Sherpa bags for dogs, which actually have ventilation. It seems Splash News eventually realized its error and has changed its caption to now simply read, “Taylor Swift’s security guards are seen moving a huge case into the trunk of an awaiting SUV.”
