Taylor Swift is not "bothered" that Joe Jonas was cast in a movie alongside Selena Gomez, despite a speculative and ridiculous claim. Gossip Cop can debunk this silly and wrong report. Apparently a certain fabrication factory is unaware that exes Swift and Jonas buried the hatchet long ago.
At a press event on Wednesday for Hotel Transylvania 3, it was revealed Jonas is among a group of stars who will voice new characters in the upcoming sequel. Gomez will be reprising her role as one of the animated film's lead characters. HollywoodLife is deeming this casting "crazy news," and asking, "Is his ex and her BFF Taylor Swift bothered?!"
The site reminds readers that Swift and Jonas had a "very vicious split" when they were teens, and theorizes, "Could Sel's BFF be feeling a little hurt?" The blog goes on to write, "We can't [help] wondering if [Gomez] put up a fight about working with Joe or was totally cool with it?" The outlet acknowledges Swift and Jonas broke up "10 years ago," but despite that, the online publication is still trying to manufacture a scandal by suggesting the songstress should be upset that one of her ex-boyfriends and one of her close friends are both voicing characters in a movie.
There's a number of problems with this premise. First off, Gomez isn't really "working with Joe." As with all animated films, actors typically record their parts separately and usually only cross paths during promo events. HollywoodLies, as the site is known, is apparently ignorant of the way such films are made.
But even if Gomez and Jonas were logging camera time together, there'd still be no reason for her to "put up a fight," nor is there reason for Swift to be "bothered." Though it's true Swift and Jonas' breakup was controversial at the time, even inspiring Swift to write some of her famous relationship songs, they've been on relatively good terms for years. In fact, in 2015 Swift and Jonas hung out in London, leading "Entertainment Tonight" to exclaim, "Friendliest exes ever!" Plus, not only did Swift share a photo from the hangout on Instagram, but it was actually the second time that month that they got together.
It makes no sense to claim Swift might have a problem with Gomez and Jonas voicing characters in the same movie when she herself has shown that she and her ex are still pals who even spend time with one another in social settings. Of course, none of this is mentioned in HollywoodLies' story, because the website was apparently too busy trying to spark a controversy to do proper research. Well, Gossip Cop not only researched, but we also investigated further with our Swift contacts. One confidante, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, deemed the blog's take a "joke" and couldn't believe it was published as a serious article.
But this isn't the first time the outlet has tried to stir the pot when it comes to Swift and her celebrity friends. Most recently, Gossip Cop called out HollywoodLies just last month for absurdly claiming Gomez might be "jealous" that Camila Cabello was going on tour with Swift. We've also exposed the site, which seems to thrive on nonexistent drama, for accusing Gomez of breaking the "girl code" by being at the same club as John Mayer, and for accusing Ed Sheeran of breaking the "friendship code" by complimenting Katy Perry. Perhaps the website should focus on another code, the one that calls for all journalists to fact-check their stories for accuracy.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
