Taylor Swift is one of the biggest pop stars in the world. Unfortunately, she’s also one of the biggest tabloid targets. Here are five recent wrong rumors about the singer.
Last month, Gossip Cop busted RadarOnline for falsely claiming that Swift’s demanding schedule on the upcoming film adaptation of Cats was jeopardizing her relationship with Joe Alwyn. The outlet didn’t mention that Cats is shooting the U.K., where her boyfriend lives. The singer spent the past year on an international tour and managed to make her romance work, so the idea she’ll be too busy for her boyfriend while shooting a movie in his hometown is absurd.
In July, Gossip Cop debunked a Star story about Swift asking Gigi Hadid to be the maid of honor at her wedding. The main problem with the story? The singer has no plans to walk down the aisle. E! News reported earlier this year that Swift and Alwyn aren’t ready to get married. There’s no indication that has changed, and no legitimate publication has reported otherwise. And aside from Hadid being the “maid of honor,” the magazine’s article provided zero details about Swift’s so-called “wedding,” which obviously hasn’t taken place.
Gossip Cop also busted OK! in July for wrongly reporting that Swift was having trouble selling tickets for her Reputation Stadium Tour. The story was provably untrue on every level. At the time, we pointed out how the singer was selling out shows and breaking records across the world. One month after we corrected the article, Forbes published a piece titled, “Taylor Swift’s Reputation Tour Is A Massive Success.”
This past June, Life & Style insisted that Swift and Alwyn would be getting married in August. It was said the wedding would take place in Nashville during a break from her Reputation Stadium Tour. Gossip Cop shot down the report as soon as it emerged. This is an example of how time has definitively proven a tabloid story to be made-up. August came and went without Swift tying the knot.
And finally, Gossip Cop called out RadarOnline in May for alleging that Swift had “dumped” Lena Dunham as a friend following the actress’s split from Jack Antonoff, who’s produced several of Swift’s songs. The premise didn’t make sense considering that Dunham and Antonoff had an amicable breakup. Shortly after we debunked the story, Dunham praised Swift’s Harper’s Bazaar profile on Twitter, calling the singer “the best friend a gal could ask for.”
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
