Taylor Swift did not rent out the entire 165-room Lowry Hotel in Manchester for the full week before her concert in the city, despite a new report. Gossip Cop can exclusively set the record straight on this inaccurate claim. We’re told by sources within Swift’s camp as well as at the hotel that it’s not true.

On Friday, Swift kicked off the European leg of her “Reputation” tour at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester, performing at the arena for more than 50,000 fans. According to the Daily Mail, in the week leading up to her two back-to-back sold-out concerts there, the singer “booked out the entire Lowry Hotel.” The paper contends the “move” has “peeved off a number of other VIPs and superstars jetting into the city.”

But the article doesn’t even cite one single source to back up its claim that Swift rented out all 165 rooms for the week. The tabloid simply states, “The cost of hiring out the entire hotel is unlikely to make a dent in pop superstar Taylor’s pocket, given that the chart-topper has an estimated fortune of $280 million.” The paper further adds, “Prices for one of the hotel’s Riverside suites start at £850 [$1,140] per night, though Taylor will no doubt occupy a Presidential Suite,” which runs about $5.360. And while it’s true Swift has amassed a fortune, she didn’t rent out the Lowry Hotel for a week.

It’s abundantly clear the Daily Mail didn’t fact-check its article. In fact, it seems the paper picked up its misinformation from the Manchester Evening News, which published a similar story without any details or sources. On the other hand, Gossip Cop checked in with a source close to the singer, who tells us on background that the report about Swift hiring out an entire hotel in the British city is simply “not true.” Additionally, we called the Lowry Hotel in Manchester and was also assured by an employee there that it was false.

As Gossip Cop noted above, Swift is currently in the midst of her hugely successful “Reputation” tour, which is heading to Dublin and London later this month. She’s then set to return to the United States at the end of June, performing in various cities across the country until the end of October. During her recent concerts in Manchester, Swift praised the city’s “incredible resilience” in the aftermath of the May 2017 terror attack during an Ariana Grande concert that claimed 22 lives. Swift told the audience on Friday, “I just wanted to say Manchester: It is such an honor to play for you tonight.”
