What happened to Taylor Swift's upcoming wedding to Joe Alwyn and all planning they were supposedly doing? Exactly one year ago, Gossip Cop debunked a bogus report claiming Swift and Alwyn were secretly engaged. Time has proven our reporting correct.
On October 17, 2018, Life & Style splashed a big headline across its cover: "Taylor Secretly Engaged!" The article said Alwyn had proposed to Swift but, of course, failed to provide any details about where or how. Instead, the outlet quoted a so-called "source" as saying, "He's the kind of guy who would've gone old-school and asked her parents first, then gotten down on one knee to propose." The article went on to describe - with great drama, but absolutely no detail - how the two were already well underway in planning a wedding that Swift hoped would be her "own version of Meghan Markle's royal wedding."
The publication failed to say exactly what about the royal wedding the singer wanted to emulate, but the article was filled with the most generic "wedding plans" the uninspired tabloid could come up. This included Swift wearing a white dress, getting married in a church and wanting to "feel like a princess." The article's dubious, unnamed source piled on the nonsense by claiming, "Taylor and Joe would both want to start the baby planning on their romantic honeymoon." As Gossip Cop said at the time, the flimsy details and silly conjecture read more like fan fiction than anything resembling journalism. We also checked with our own source close to Swift, who assured us tabloid's article was false.
Now, a year later, we've learned a lot more. Swift's Reputation Stadium Tour ended more than a month after last year's report, and the singer went straight into recording her latest album, Lover, which was released earlier this summer. That doesn't leave a lot of time for secret proposals or wedding planning on the level of a royal wedding. Oh - and of course, there still has been no engagement announcement, nor has Swift been spotted wearing an engagement ring. The tabloid's story was completely fabricated.
Life & Style then either forgot (or ignored) its own phony report, as just last month it ran yet another untrue article claiming Swift was pushing Alwyn to propose through her new song lyrics. It seems he wouldn't need to be pushed to propose if they were already secretly engaged, as the earlier story alleged. The truth is that both article were completely wrong. Gossip Cop will continue to bust fiction about the couple's relationship.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
