Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn are not taking a break. A phony tabloid report claiming they are is false. Gossip Cop has investigated the story and can bust it.
Swift and Alwyn have been dating for three years, and in that time they’ve managed to keep their relationship very private. As a result, tabloids have often invented stories about the couple. The latest example comes from Star, which purports that the “Lover” singer and The Favourite star are taking some time apart.
The article includes quotes from a so-called “pal,” who tells the publication, “They’ve taken a break to reflect on things and see where they’re at.” The seemingly phony friend goes on to say, “Everyone’s hoping they’ll come back stronger because of it.” It’s not clear who the source is “pals” with. Is this a friend of Swift’s or Alwyn’s? The outlet leaves out that crucial detail.
The publication asserts that there could be friction because Alwyn isn’t comfortable dating a star as popular as Swift and the attention that accompanies it. The tipster goes on to say, “He knows that everywhere he goes, people are looking at him and thinking, ‘There’s the guy who dates Taylor Swift.'” The story ends on an upbeat note, with the supposed “pal” saying, “They really do love each other. Hopefully, it’s just a blip.”
It’s not a “blip” because it’s not true. For starters, Swift was just in London with Alwyn over the Thanksgiving holiday. The singer also recently sat down for an interview with Billboard on the eve of her 30th birthday. In the interview, Swift was asked about what advice she would give her 20-year-old self. Her answer is that she wouldn’t change anything, that she’s happy just the way things are. “I’ve got my friends, who like me for the right reasons. I’ve got my family. I’ve got my boyfriend. I’ve got my fans. I’ve got my cats.” That boyfriend, of course, is Alwyn. It sure sounds like they are still very happy.
It’s impossible to trust Star when it comes to Swift and Alwyn’s relationship. In April, the tabloid claimed Swift and Katy Perry were “racing each other” to the altar. The bogus report contended that the two singers were desperately trying to outdo each other in the size and scope of their wedding. The problem? Swift and Alwyn aren’t even engaged. The magazine took the news of Perry’s engagement to Orlando Bloom and made up a story about the formerly-feuding singers.
Gossip Cop also debunked a false report from Star in July 2018 that asserted Swift was planning her wedding and asked Gigi Hadid to be her Maid of Honor. Swift wasn’t headed down the aisle. The outlet clearly has no insight into the singer’s very private relationship with Alwyn.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
