Is Taylor Swift trying to convince Joe Alwyn to go more public with their romance? One of this week's tabloids claims the singer is having a difficult time getting her boyfriend to step into the spotlight with her. Gossip Cop has learned the story is made-up.
According to OK!, Swift is eager to show off her boyfriend of two years, but the actor isn't on board with the idea. A supposed source tells the outlet, "Joe is just intensely private. Taylor's been living her life under a microscope since she was a teenager, so the scrutiny doesn't bother her as much."
The alleged tipster goes on to say that Swift has been "trying to get Joe comfortable" with flaunting their relationship. "She really thinks he's the one, so it's crucial that he can handle the attention they receive," adds the suspicious insider, "otherwise it could crush them as a couple."
None of this is accurate. Just last month, Alwyn cleared up the misconception that his relationship with Swift is "strangely private." When asked in an interview with Mr. Porter if he has to fight for privacy, the actor said, "I don't think more than anyone else. I don't think anyone you meet on the streets would just spill their guts out to you, therefore why should I?" He added, "And then that is defined as being 'strangely private'. Fine. But I don't think it is. I think it's normal."
This story seems to have been published because the couple has yet to walk a red carpet together. However, that doesn't mean the actor refuses to acknowledge that they're dating. This past November, Swift supported Alwyn at the Los Angeles premiere of his movie The Favourite. People magazine noted at the time, "Taylor just stayed by Joe's side the whole night." The singer also accompanied her boyfriend to the New York Film Festival premiere of the movie. And last month, Swift and Alwyn attended the Golden Globes together.
Additionally, Gossip Cop checked in with a source close to Swift, who wasn't able to speak on the record, but assures us the tabloid's report is fabricated. We're told the singer hasn't been pushing her boyfriend to make their romance more public. This also isn't the first time the magazine has made up a story about the pop star's fame impacting her relationship. In September 2017, we busted the publication for falsely claiming Swift and Alwyn were headed for a breakup over the fanfare surrounding the release of her album. This latest article is equally bogus.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
