Taylor Swift was not jealous of Harry Styles and the positive reviews he received for Dunkirk, despite a report that was published exactly one year ago today. Just about a week after the film's release, Gossip Cop debunked a made-up story that claimed she was envious of his acting success. At the time, we noted Swift was focusing on her music, and with her new album Reputation and world tour currently in full swing, it's clear our information was 100 percent accurate.
On July 29, 2017, Celeb Dirty Laundry posted an article titled, "Taylor Swift Jealous Of Harry Styles' Movie Success." Pointing to Dunkirk and Styles's "stellar reviews," the website set up its manufactured premise by stating without any proof that Swift had been unsuccessfully trying to "break into films for many years." The blog noted that the films Swift appeared in received, at best, "middling or negative reviews." Again, with no evidence whatsoever to back up its claim, the outlet maintained that since "Swift never quite got over the Harry Styles breakup, this has to sting for her" to see her ex-boyfriend receiving "all the critical acclaim and box office success that she always wanted."
Of course, as of right now, Styles has no film projects lined up, while Swift was recently cast in a movie version of Cats, alongside Jennifer Hudson, James Corden and Ian McKellen. But as we reported 12 months ago today, there is no rivalry, and Swift wasn't "jealous" of Styles's movie success. And contrary to the baseless claim, the singer-songwriter has clearly gotten "over" Styles, since Swift and Joe Alwyn have been dating for more than a year and a half now. Throughout that time, however, she's been focused on her music, which again has showcased her star power.
In an article about how Swift's album Reputation sold more than 2 million units, Forbes wrote that she's "both the most famous and the most successful recording artist on the planet." Meanwhile, the music bible Rolling Stone called Swift's Reputation Stadium Tour "her finest yet." And as soon as she ends her recording-breaking tour, Swift will begin production on Cats.
As Gossip Cop has mentioned before, we occasionally go back to articles we debunked 365 days earlier to remind readers how claims made one day by tabloids and websites often don't hold up over time. In this instance, CDL simply had a false narrative it wanted to push and absolutely no facts or sources to back up its claim that Swift was jealous of Styles's acting career. A year ago we proved the premise was flawed, and the passage of time has only further bolstered how the blog's article was a complete fabrication.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
