Is Taylor Swift scared of Cats co-star Ian McKellen because he's acting like a "diva" on set? That's the ridiculous and factually inaccurate story in one of this week's tabloids. Gossip Cop can correct it.
Swift and McKellen are co-starring in the upcoming film adaptation of the Broadway musical, but according to the Globe, the 79-year-old actor is "a grumpy old man who's throwing his weight around the set." An alleged insider tells the magazine, "Ian is short on patience in his old age. The main problem is the wardrobe and makeup - he refuses to sit in a chair for five hours a day before filming and have his face painted."
The magazine's premise doesn't make sense from the very start. McKellen would obviously have been well aware of the heavy makeup and prosthetics needed for the role before signing onto the film. If the actor were truly so averse to sitting in a makeup chair, he wouldn't have agreed to the project.
Still, the outlet's supposed source adds, "Everyone is scrambling to keep him happy because he won't hesitate to walk if anything is not to his satisfaction. Even superstar Taylor is walking on eggshells."
The main problems with the tabloid's tale? Cats doesn't begin filming until November. If the publication had bothered to do a bit of research before making up its phony story, it would have known that the movie is still in pre-production. McKellen isn't "throwing his weight around the set" considering that he's yet to arrive on set.
Meanwhile, McKellen spoke to Entertainment Weekly this week about preparing for the musical, noting that he's "open to all sorts of experiences." The actor added, "I'm learning how to sing and move in a feline way. I shall be doing that in December and January." Although the movie stars shooting November, McKellen isn't actually filming his scenes until a month into production and seems excited about taking on a new type of role.
It's also worth noting, this isn't the first time we've had to debunk a story surrounding Swift's involvement in the highly-anticipated musical adaptation. Last month, Gossip Cop busted the Globe's sister outlet, RadarOnline, for falsely claiming that Swift's hectic shooting schedule on the Cats movie could cause a split between her and boyfriend Joe Alwyn.
Conclusion: This one's fairly straightforward. The fact that Cats hasn't started shooting yet completely disproves the tabloid's entire premise. Swift isn't scared of McKellen, who she hasn't began working with yet.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
