Is Taylor Swift releasing a greatest hits album? Perhaps one day, but there’s currently nothing imminently in the works. Gossip Cop can bust a rumor that started circulating on Twitter on Tuesday.

The account @PopFactsNews is apparently ironically named as it did not spread real facts but fake news when it claimed, “Taylor Swift is in early stages of planning to release a ‘Greatest Hits Album’ which is said to include two brand new tracks.” A second tweet stated, “It is said there could possibly be a tour for this also.” The allegations were illustrated with the cover art for Swift’s six albums: Taylor Swift (2006), Fearless (2008), Speak Now (2010), Red (2012), 1989 (2014) and Reputation (2017).

Releasing a greatest hits album is almost like a rite of passage in the music industry. Iconic artists who have racked up enough hits across multiple albums typically repackage them in a collection and sometimes include a new song or two. Britney Spears, for instance, first dropped a greatest hits album in 2005, and included her new cover of “My Prerogative.” So, does Swift now have her own compilation on the way?

Gossip Cop hears no. While the Twitter account that spread the claims purports to deliver “daily exclusive tea on all your faves,” it is not verified and has no confirmed connection to the music industry or Swift’s camp. If and when she does decide to compile a greatest hits album, the legitimate news will come from her label and through her official channels, just as it did for Reputation earlier this year.

In fact, because Reputation just came out last month, it doesn’t even make sense that Swift would already be preparing a greatest hits album. She is extensively committed to promoting this current record for at least the next year. Far from going on the road to support a greatest hits album, Swift is actually embarking on the “Reputation Stadium Tour” next May. And the Reputation era is likely to continue through the 2019 Grammys. That pretty much guarantees a greatest hits album isn’t a project Swift will be tackling in the near future.
