One of this week’s tabloids claims Taylor Swift and Beyonce are gearing up for a “catfight” at next year’s Oscars. The story is completely bogus. Gossip Cop can debunk it.

Swift co-stars in the upcoming film adaptation of the Broadway musical Cats, while Beyonce is recording an original song for Disney’s live-action remake of The Lion King, in which she voices Nala. According to Star, both singers are already thinking about the 2020 Academy Awards and expect they’ll be in contention.

“There’s a lot of rivalry between Beyonce and Taylor,” a supposed source tells the outlet. “As the big names attached to each project, they’ll be the main focus come awards season.” The alleged insider adds, “Both of them are desperate for their films to be a success at the Oscars, so they’ll be spearheading their respective campaigns. It’s as though they’ve identified each other as a big threat to their movie’s chance of ultimate success.”

The magazine’s phony story is very premature. The 2019 Oscars aired just one month ago, and the next awards season won’t arrive until the end of this year. Cats, which hits theaters in December, hasn’t even wrapped filming yet. The idea that Swift is worried about campaigning for awards when she hasn’t finished shooting her movie doesn’t make much sense.

The tabloid’s premise gets more illogical from there. If this report were true, which it isn’t, then Swift is expecting to nab an acting nomination while Beyonce is expecting one for Best Original Song. Swift will be performing songs that already appeared in the Broadway version of Cats, so she wouldn’t be eligible for a music nomination. How exactly are they headed for a “catfight” if they’d be competing in different categories?

To recap, Star claims Swift and Beyonce are feuding because they’re preparing for the hypothetical scenario in which they’re both up for Oscars in separate categories. Despite the magazine’s story being totally irrational, Gossip Cop still checked in with a source close to Beyonce, who confirms it’s all nonsense.

It’s worth noting, Gossip Cop busted Star last month for falsely claiming Swift was nervous about her performance in Cats. At the time, the outlet said the singer was worried about being outshined by her co-stars and living up to fans’ expectations. That scenario wasn’t true either, but it shows how the tabloid can’t keep its storylines straight. How exactly did Swift go from lacking confidence in her performance to believing she’ll win an Oscar in a matter of weeks?

Additionally, Star doesn’t exactly have the best track record when it comes to accurately reporting about “Bad Blood” singer. Last year, we called out the tabloid for making up a story about Swift planning her wedding to Joe Alwyn. The singer and her boyfriend have yet to get engaged. This latest article is more fiction.
