Taylor Swift is determined to sell more albums than Adele? That's the claim in one of this week's tabloids, which says the pop star desperately wants to dethrone the fellow singer. Gossip Cop looked into the situation and we can exclusively set the record straight.

Swift's sixth studio album, Reputation, sold more than a million copies during its first week of release earlier this month, but it failed to beat the record set by Adele in 2015. A so-called "source" now tells the National Enquirer, "Most people think Taylor is at war with Katy [Perry]. But that's not true! The person she's really competitive with is Adele."

The outlet's dubious insider adds, "Taylor doesn't care about gossip or silly rumors. What she cares about most is hard facts and sales numbers. And the simple truth is that while Taylor can sell a massive one million CD's in her first week, Adele sold over 3.3 million copies in her first week." The seemingly phony source concludes, "Taylor is competitive and wants to break everyone's records, but she just can't top Adele."

But Gossip Cop checked in with Swift insider, who laughed off the tabloid's report, but wouldn't comment on the record. Swift obviously wants her album to do well, but she isn't on a mission to defeat Adele. As for the magazine's assertion that the singer "just can't top" her peer, the Swift confidante pointed out that the singer recently broke Adele's Vevo record for the most views of a music video in 24 hours.

Our impeccable source even lightheartedly joked, "Has Adele ever been referenced in a song or video?" alluding to how Swift took Perry to task in "Bad Blood." Regardless, the pop star doesn't consider Adele to be her rival. Actually, this isn't the first time Gossip Cop has had to debunk a bogus story about Swift being jealous of the fellow singer. We previously busted the Enquirer's sister publication, Star, for falsely claiming the pop star was upset that Adele got offered to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show instead of her. This latest article surrounding the two singers is more nonsense.

Our Verdict

Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
