Taylor Sieve and Robert Roldan tried to stay on top on “So You Think You Can Dance” on Monday. Check out the video below!

As Gossip Cop has reported, Sieve is a contemporary performer from Minnesota in the running to be crowned “America’s Favorite Dancer” for season 14 of “So You Think You Can Dance.” Roldan, a “SYTYCD” alum and All-Star, chose her to be in the 2017 Top 10 as his partner. And on the first live episode two weeks ago, they proved to have a very strong emotional chemistry with a moving contemporary routine.

Then last week, Sieve and Roldan performed a Broadway-inspired number that received a standing ovation from all of the judges. Both Vanessa Hudgens and Mary Murphy seemed choked up, with the former even saying, “Taylor, you have a knack in making me cry.” And Murphy declared the contestant was a “star.” But perhaps the biggest praise of all came from head judge Nigel Lythgoe, who told the pair, “You’re the couple to beat.”

That certainly solidified the duo’s place amongst this year’s frontrunners. But it also increased pressure and expectations for their third turn on the stage tonight. They were assigned a samba, and Sieve admitted, “I’m a little nervous because I’ve never really done ballroom before.” She was urged to let go of the “shyness,” and Roldan worried the routine would go “haywire.” They ended up bringing some heat to it, but probably not enough.

Lythgoe called it a “very interesting routine” that was “performed well.” “But I didn’t really feel a spark between you,” he complained, adding, “I said you were the couple to beat last week. You have to keep that standard every week. I can’t say that this week.” Hudgens gave Sieve a mixed response, too, saying, “It was very impressive that you did what you did. That’s not easy. I think you kinda faked it til you made it… I wouldn’t mind to see a little more fire in you.”

“It’s not easy being at the top, Taylor, is it?” asked Murphy. Noting that this style is the “most technically challenging dance that we have” in the world of Latin ballroom, she praised. “You had some bright moments there.” But, Murphy added, “Can you do more in the future if you get this dance [again]? You bet.” Watch the video below.
