Lena Dunham

Lena Dunham is an American actress and author best known for playing Hannah Horvath in the HBO comedy series, “Girls.” Dunham won two Golden Globe Awards and was nominated for eight Emmys for her show about an aspiring twenty-something writer navigating her way through life in Brooklyn, New York.

Dunham, the daughter of a painter and a photographer, is known for frequently appearing nude or topless on “Girls.” In a 2014 press conference, she lashed out at a television critic who questioned whether it was “necessary” to show so much skin. She has since become an advocate for body-positivity. A supporter of the LGBT community, Dunham hosted “Saturday Night Live” on March 8, 2014.  A year later she was cast in a minor guest-starring role on the ABC prime-time drama, “Scandal.”

The star, who first rose to fame in the indie movie “Tiny Furniture,” was born on May 13, 1986 in New York City and raised in Brooklyn with her younger sister, Grace. She graduated from Oberlin College in 2008 with a degree in creative writing. In her 2013 memoir, “Not That Kind of Girl,” Dunham admitted to being sexually assaulted by a classmate while in college. She also drew criticism for certain passages of the book which described sexual contact occurring at age seven with her then one-year-old sister. As reported by Gossip Cop, Dunham was labeled a “pedophile” by former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.

Dunham, who was diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder as a child, began dating Jack Antonoff, lead singer of the band Bleachers, in 2012. They originally vowed not to marry until same sex marriage was legal in all 50 states. Though now legal, the couple never wed and eventually broke up in 2018.
